Yes, And... We're Doing Improv Again!

If you thought the Arab(ish) Improv Show was a one-time thing, well… yes, and… it's back, baby. The Arabic Theater Company is returning to the Balance Arts Center in Herald Square for their 7th show, and Ali will be gracing the stage for his 4th time with the crew. At this point, it's basically a residency.

Behind-the-scenes improv workshop with Lucien Bourjeily, who joined us virtually. (L-R) Tarek Kdiry, Ahmed Elhosary, Joe Mourad, Ali Nasser, Liana Afuni, Anissa Naji, Maria Bechara, and Moud Sabra.

For the uninitiated: the Arab(ish) Improv Show is the wildly entertaining brainchild of Egyptian-Canadian actor and Arabic Theater Company founder Islam Balbaa, who somehow convinced a group of ridiculously talented New York-based Arabic-speaking actors to get on stage and make things up on the spot. And it's been a hit every single time. Shocker.

Behind-the-scenes improv workshop with UCB instructor/coach Donald Chang. (L-R) Ahmed Elhosary, Joe Mourad, Tarek Kdiry, Donald Chang, Ali Nasser, Liana Afuni, and Maria Bechara.

Ali has been part of the ensemble since joining the team last spring, and with each show, the chemistry just keeps getting sharper, weirder, and funnier. More like "what happens when quick-witted Arabs get a stage and zero script,” which, if you've seen one of our shows, you already know it's an absolutely unhinged compliment. And we’ve been upping our game by doing workshops with improv coaches and instructors like Donald Chang and Lucien Bourjeily.

Come catch the magic live on Saturday, May 16th, 8:00 PM at the Balance Arts Center. Tickets are going fast (they always do), so grab yours before someone else takes your seat and has the time of their life without you.
